| today i woke up feeling wistful. |
[25 Apr 2007|10:44am] |
i had just come out of a dream the only aspect of which i remember is just before waking we were playing a fantasy-style RPG (real RPG you fuckers, not that ready made computer spittle) which i was GMing, and i was all like "hey, wait, what are all you guys' characters, anyway?"
and someone was like, "i'm a dwarf trapper"
and someone was like "i'm a horse-gnome. it's like a palladin but 'm a gnome and ride a horse."
"is it a miniature horse? it must be."
(irritated) "no, it's just really small."
and then i woke up with sort of nostalgic feeling and a really strong desire to listen to "Wide To Receive" by Morrissey.
i hate you, livejournal.

my little buddy joey is coming through town "promoting" his book LOCKPICK PORNOGRAPHY, and will be reading at um, some bar above some book co-op at concordia? does that make sense to people? i don't actually know what time exactly, or where that is, but it's happening at some manner of social-justice related fundraiser....
and we're gonna get wasted. it's wednesday night. you should come.

JUELZ SANTANA - WHATEVER U WANNA CALL IT |
] |
decent articles/entries on poppolitics.org and mimi nguyen's lj (scroll down to 3/23/06) recently. the former is now big news in terms of perspectives i think a lot of us try to take to eating, but the post all in all is pretty deaf. not really watching tv off dvd lately, i hadn't actually seen these BK manthem adds until i checked this out, but they're pretty amazing/horrifying. it's one of those things where i almost go along with the tongue-in-cheek excess of it all, but then i'm like "wait, fuck no." because i think just that sort of self-reflexivity-on-the-edge without actually interrupting in any way the privilege and destructive archetypes they are lampooning is the one of the earmarks of capitalist/ironic/consumer culture right now.
i think it's interesting too that most of the debate on youtube surrounding the ad is based around animal rights, feminism (conceived strictly as a "women's issue"), or obesity, as opposed to how it reinscribes traditional notions of masculinity while grossly delegitimizing others (be they "feminized" others, or merely alternative masculinities....there was a brief mention in the comments about quiche being a "cultural" food, as opposed to a "chick" food, which prompted me to notice how a lot of the food derided in the song is also non-western in origin/general association....interesting, as a subtle way national subjects are inscribed along with a somewhat culturally specific notion of "manhood").
that said, i love it when they toss the mini-van off the overpass into a dumptruck...being pulled by A STRONGMAN....lead along by a...BURGER ON A SHOVEL. if nothing else, i can sympathize with how excited the writers must have been getting as they dreamed this up, spiralling into more and more ludicrous extremes....

MORRISSEY - DEAR GOD PLEASE HELP ME |
] |
somehow/somewhere between a decent show and a mostly okay alright i guess but not crunk party and a ridiculously warm ride and wet bike home and arriving to morrissey i'm just enveloped in sensuousness. it seems.
i've found a new way home. it's lansdowne.
but no one to come home to, alas. so the sensuous fritters away in a flickering glow.

[22 May 2006|11:45am] |
hey all, due to some bad planning on my part, i recently had to cancel a plane ticket with westjet, not realizing that it's actually non-refundable, so now i've got this $680ish credit with them, and still owe my brother 680 dollars.
the credit is transferable though, so i'm hoping that there's someone i know who was planning on flying somewhere with westjet sometime in the next year, so i can just use my credit up and you can just pay me? yes?
do get in touch if you're interested. because i really don't have 680 dollars.

I got the revolution blues, I see bloody fountains, and ten million dune buggies comin' down the mountains. Well, I hear that Laurel Canyon is full of famous stars, but I hate them worse than lepers and I'll kill them in their cars."

this morning when i woke up there was a bird on a wire outside my window. being a simple man, i have taken this as a Good Omen. that, and the satisfying realization that me breakfast wrap really would have been more delicious if i had put syrup on it, damn you all to hell.
